Description: Plants branched according to literature, but not seen. Leaves ovate to lanceolate, longly acuminate, unicostate, the costa ending near apex, margin serrulate. Leaf cells smooth, linear.
(Sub-) Fossil occurence: No information
Co-occurence: No information
Modern occurence: This is the first record of R. compacta in South America. The marshy habitat differs from the records of R. compacta in Central and North America. Nevertheless, the plant agrees with the description in Crum and Anderson (1981). The only difference seems to be the slightly longer apex and longer acumen cells in the fossil moss recorded in the present study.
Palaeoenvironmental indication: No information
