Description: Ascospores 2-septate, fusiform, 32–49 × 18–25 μm, both ends truncate with a germ pore. Surface often with dark brown anastomosing ribs.

(Sub-) Fossil occurence: Ascospores of Diporotheca occur regularly in European Interglacial deposits (Holocene and Eemian) formed in eutrophic to mesotrophic conditions (van der Wiel, 1982; van Geel et al., 1986, 1989). Van Geel et al. (2003) recorded D. rhizophila ascospores and fruit bodies in soil samples from a Roman Period settlement site in The Netherlands.
